Obviously, though not identical to a human pelvic girdle, Lucy's hips are more similar to those of the human than those of the chimpanzee. Lovejoy maintains that Lucy's human-like pelvis is one important indication that afarensis was an upright walker. This is extremely interesting in light of the very apelike appearence of the afarensis skull (above). |
